Uniting Church in Sweden
The Uniting Church in Sweden (UCS) is a church for all aspects of life – where the encounter with Jesus Christ transforms me, you, and the world.
Together with our youth ministry, Equmenia, we are a church for all aspects of life. A place where children, youth, young adults, and adults, whatever their age or position in life, can grow in their faith. In our congregations we run lots of activities for different ages.
With almost 600 congregations, we gather tens of thousands of people all over Sweden every week for services and worship. Through a strong involvement in our society, we have a wide variety of activities. Thousands of people are engaged in choirs, scout corps, sports, school homework assistance, and much more. We also work with issues relating to refugees and migration, human rights, violence and abuse against women and children, advocacy work for peace, security and sustainability, climate related activities and much more.

History
The Uniting Church in Sweden is a new church, with an almost 200-year long history. Together with billions of Christians all over the world, we believe in Jesus Christ.
Three denominations, with the roots in the Swedish revival, wanted to form something new and joined together in 2011 to become The Uniting Church in Sweden.
There have been thoughts about unification and becoming one denomination since the three denominations started in the end of the 1800s. Since then, there has been attempts to unification, but it wasn’t until 2011 that it became a reality. The UCS was formed by the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden, the Baptist Union of Sweden, and the Methodist Church in Sweden. The new denomination has a diversity of congregations of different character and direction. We unify in a common vision – the encounter with Jesus Christ that transforms me, you, and the world.
International work
Cooperation with other churches and Christian believers, in Sweden and internationally, is part of the UCS identity.
We are part of many ecumenical organizations, for example the World Council of Churches. We currently support active mission projects with churches and Christian organizations in 15 countries on 5 different continents: Asia, Africa, Latin America, Middle East/North Africa and Eurasia. We also have missionaries in several countries.

The organization
The UCS is a community of congregations and people who confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The congregations in the UCS have agreed to the content of its founding document. UCS annual Church Conference is one of the largest governing bodies in Sweden. The Church Conference is the UCS highest decision-making body and consists of elected representatives from UCS congregations. The Church Conference decides about UCS’s joint work and gives recommendations to the congregations.
