SUMMER SCHOOL ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Theology and Human Rights

Treat people equally!

25-29 May 2015, Hagaberg, Sweden

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28

The “Summer School on Human Rights – Theology and Human Rights” focusing on Anti-Discrimination legalisation will take place from 25-29 May 2015 in the premises of Hagaberg folkhögskola, Södertälje, Sweden.  It is organised by the Conference of European Churches, the Church of Sweden and Uniting Church in Sweden.

The Summer School on Human Rights will look more closely at issues of anti-discrimination legislation, racism and xenophobia, minorities and institutions. The summer school offers churches and church-related organisations the opportunity to train their members who are working on human rights issues especially on combating discrimination on all grounds. The school will focus on the legal, political, societal and institutional dimensions of discrimination based on all grounds.

The program will provide an opportunity for people working within the CEC Member Churches to meet and exchange on the state of human rights and anti-discrimination in the present context. The participants will also benefit from interaction with prominent experts.

The main themes of the course are:

  • Human rights and discrimination on all grounds
  • Social hostility based on discrimination in society
  • Politicisation and instrumentalisation of discrimination based on different grounds
  • Domestic and international protection of anti-discrimination legalisation like Council of Europe and European Union.

The participation fee amounts to 350 euros including board and lodging thanks to the Church of Sweden, Uniting Church in Sweden and other possible donors.

For churches and church organisations wishing to be represented at the meeting but not able to meet the costs, there is a possibility to apply for a subsidy for travel costs and/or for board and lodging. The subsidy fund is quite limited, however, and participants applying for subsidies are required to pay at least a minimal contribution. If participants apply for financial support, they should do so as early as possible and contact the secretariat (kst@cec-kek.be) before booking their travel tickets. Please be aware that CEC will not be able to bear any costs caused by late cancellation of the registration.
